Things to do · Tbilisi 2026
Classic landmarks, cultural context, neighbourhood life and adaptable itineraries for heat, rain, families and repeat weekends.
Eight strong starting points
Opening hours, restoration access, ticket systems and seasonal operation can change. Confirm the primary venue before making a cross-city journey.
Freedom Square → Sololaki balconies → Kote Apkhazi → Meidani → Abanotubani → Leghvtakhevi. Expect cobbles, slopes and photo stops.
Reserve a private room or choose a public bath; confirm room standard, towels, slippers and optional kisi scrub before arrival.
Use the ropeway or walk up, then descend toward the garden. Check fortress access because restoration can affect routes.
Use a museum for context on archaeology, art and Soviet-era history; confirm which buildings and galleries are open.
Browse art, antiques and objects with stories. Authenticity and value vary—buy because you like an object, not because of an unsupported claim.
The funicular reaches the park and city views; combine with the Pantheon stop if operating conditions allow.
Monumental hilltop sculpture above Tbilisi Sea. Go in clear weather, arrange the return and expect limited shade.
Combine Fabrika/Chugureti, galleries, design shops and a wine bar rather than staying only inside the Old Town tourist circuit.
A balanced first weekend
Walk from Freedom Square through Sololaki and Old Tbilisi. Pause for lunch, continue to the sulfur-bath district and waterfall, then choose a bath or sunset viewpoint—not both if it makes the day frantic.
Choose one museum, browse Dry Bridge if operating, then spend the late afternoon in Vera, Chugureti or Vake. Finish with Georgian wine and a shared dinner.
Plan like a local resident
In summer, schedule exposed climbs early or late. Carry water and do not underestimate vertical distance.
Dress respectfully, keep voices low and follow photography rules. Active worship takes priority over sightseeing.
Many museums close one day per week and exhibitions can move. Check the specific institution, not an old aggregator listing.
Historic streets, stairs, cobbles and steep slopes can be difficult. Contact venues directly for step-free access and toilet details.
Ask before photographing people, worship or interiors. Drone rules, restricted zones and venue policies need a separate current check.
Parks, ropeways and short loops work well, but balcony edges, traffic, heat and uneven paths require close supervision.
