THE FIRST QUESTIONWho holds
which status?

The sponsor’s status and the exact relationship determine the correct residence route.

We screen before documents are translated.

Choose the correct legal basis

“Family permit” can mean two different routes.

FOREIGN SPONSOR

Family reunification

For a qualifying family member of a foreigner who already holds a Georgian residence permit.

Temporary residence route
GEORGIAN SPONSOR

Family of a Georgian citizen

A foreign spouse, parent or child of a Georgian citizen may qualify for permanent residence under a separate provision.

Different application basis

Statutory family definition

Relationship first.
Evidence second.

Eligibility is not created by financial dependence alone. We match the applicant to the legal category and then prove the relationship with properly authenticated civil-status documents.

SpouseMarriage evidence
Child or parentBirth and civil-status chain
Guardianship or custodyCompetent legal act
Specified dependantDependency, disability or support evidence

PERSONAL BANK-BALANCE TEST

average-consumer subsistence minimum

for each month of the requested permit period

The published subsistence indicator changes. We use the current figure when the application is prepared rather than hard-coding a stale amount.

A calmer application

Four controlled stages.

Most avoidable problems begin before filing: wrong route, inconsistent names, expired documents or certification ordered without checking treaty rules.

01

Confirm the route

We identify whether this is family reunification, permanent residence as family of a Georgian citizen, or another route.

02

Build the evidence

We check relationship documents, lawful stay, sponsor status and financial evidence before translation.

03

Prepare and file

We complete the application, organize the file and accompany the applicant to the filing appointment in Tbilisi.

04

Track and complete

We monitor the case, help answer procedural requests and explain the separate residence-card step after approval.

IMPORTANT DISTINCTION

Approval is not the final plastic card.

After a residence permit is granted, the applicant must complete the separate residence-card process. Georgian law generally requires the card within one month. Plan time and budget for both stages.

Permit decision → address/card application → residence card

Before you prepare documents

Family residence questions, answered carefully.

Who qualifies as a family member?+

The current law defines family member to include a spouse, child or parent of the foreign sponsor, a person under the sponsor’s guardianship or custody, and certain fully dependent minors, beneficiaries of support or disabled persons. Evidence and the precise category matter.

Can a Georgian citizen sponsor a foreign spouse?+

A spouse, parent or child of a Georgian citizen may qualify for a permanent residence permit rather than the temporary family-reunification permit described here. We screen the correct route first.

Can an unmarried partner apply?+

An unmarried relationship is not listed in the statutory family-member definition for this route. Alternative independent residence grounds should be assessed.

How much income is required?+

The Agency requests evidence of lawful income earned in Georgia by the applicant and/or a Georgian citizen or qualifying relative with residence rights. A personal bank balance may be accepted; for the requested permit term, the monthly amount should not be less than twice the average-consumer subsistence minimum. Because that indicator changes, we calculate it when preparing the file.

Do foreign marriage or birth certificates need an Apostille?+

Often they require legalization or Apostille and a Georgian translation, but treaty exemptions and the issuing country can change the answer. Send scans before ordering certification.

How long does the decision take?+

The official service options currently published are 30 calendar days for 300 GEL, 20 calendar days for 450 GEL and 10 calendar days for 600 GEL per applicant. These are decision-processing services, not a guarantee of approval.

Can we apply at the last minute?+

Do not plan around the final days of lawful stay. The applicant must be lawfully staying in Georgia and enough valid stay should remain for the chosen procedure and any correction request. Contact us early.

Is the residence card included?+

No. Permit approval and the physical residence card are separate stages. The law generally requires the card to be obtained within one month after the permit is granted, and card fees depend on the selected production time.
